IF You Know Differently..... please call me or contacts below.
Officers are still working to identify the woman unhoused at the time of her death.
She had a Walmart shopping cart with her belongings and a high back wooden bar stool which was supporting a light green coloured tarp that she was using as a shelter.
How Luna Daisy got her name
I walk by the 1100 block of View Street everyday. For more than two years. I never saw her.
It is at Cook and View Streets.
Upon hearing of her demise I searched for her final earthly presence. The area is frought with new building projects and well secured and did not lend itself to setting up temporary structures. I know for I have also had the misfortune of having to look for the same during my own experience of living alone on the street.
Unable to find the location, even with with my practiced eye, I decided to look on the other side of Cook St., an even more unlikely location suitable to bear a street shelter.
After only several steps, I happened upon the stark reality of her death.
There, scorched into the concrete sidewalk was the heatbreaking evidence for which I sought.
For three days I listened to radio reports of her not being identified.
Each day I would pause with profound grief and sadness that someones daughter, sister, perhaps wife, has a tag not far from her repaired ankle that currently reads 'Jane Doe'.
Nobody should leave like this.
Not knowing her name means that most likely, those that loved her suffer the torment of not knowing of their loved ones ultimate realease from whatever demons that held bondage over her.
Somewhere, somebody cares. And they ought to know.
It is my prayer that not only may we discover her name, but that we care enough to address the Spiritual need of a generation we are shoving through the chasm created and ever broadening with dispair.
On my way on the third day of visiting the site, I happened upon a lone daisy wrestling with the well established autumn chill. I decided her name was going to be Daisy for the time being.
I exited the alley pondering a last name for Daisy. I jaywalked across Fort St., as I do everyday, In front of the shop named 'Luna' at 1048 Fort. From there I can still literally throw a baseball to where Daisy would have taken her last breath. I considered Daisy Block for the H.R. Block tax outfit and even Daisy Subway or Subway Daisy.
So placing the picked Daisy on the gruesome soot I decided, ...Luna Daisy it is.....for now...
